History

Community theatre rebirth in Monroe

The board members of Take a Bough Productions have joined the board members of Off the Wall Theatre to form a single community theatre group, Sky Performing Arts. Actors, techs and audiences throughout Puget Sound are invited to share the joy of live theatre and music with this vibrant new group.

For thirteen years East Snohomish County has enthusiastically supported two separate performance groups, Off the Wall Theatre and Take a Bough Productions. Both groups have drawn audiences, actors and techs from the Puget Sound area for quality theatre productions. In May 2004 the groups came together to present My Fair Lady, a first-class production that was very well received in the community. Since then the respective boards of Take a Bough and Off the Wall have discussed whether the area might be better served by a single group that could offer superior opportunities for performance and performing arts education. These discussions gave birth to Sky Performing Arts. The Evergreen Youth Jazz Band and In the Mood, formerly sponsored by Take a Bough, will also now perform under the auspices of Sky Performing Arts.

Sky Performing Arts 2005-2006 season, which opens October 21st with Murder on the Nile, a classic mystery by the ever-popular Agatha Christie. In late winter the group plans to present Squabbles - Your House or Mine, a hilarious take on living with argumentative in-laws by Marshall Karp. Seussical the Musical promises to be a crowd pleaser for every member of the family, with performances in Monroe in May and Everett in June. In December In the Mood offers a big band treat with performances at Crossroads Mall, East County Senior Center and Sno-Valley Senior Center.

"We're all very excited about the possibilities this new group offers," Candy Schorpp, a former officer of Off the Wall Theatre stated. "We've had crossover between the old groups for years, helping each other with everything from labor to chairs, but we've also had scheduling conflicts which hurt audiences for both organizations. We have great hopes that Sky Performing Arts will revitalize theatre in this area."
